As someone who's been in a similar circumstance to Gary (just a few years younger), it's far from as easy as "manning up". Some people can be told by every person they know "you're a great guy, you're handsome, I don't know why you find it so hard to find a girl" and then never even get a date despite their best efforts. It's not about treating women like the mysterious 'other', it's about the co-operative nature of dating. A guy can't just "man up" and boom, he's with a girl. There has to also be the girl that's interested in who Gary is... and currently, we haven't seen Gary encounter a girl that meets these criteria, have we?

Yes, both Didi and Zii have had thoughts, but there's a large gap between thoughts and action. ;)
