Re: The Elder Cave
Wow, I got me some awesome loot!
So my mom had told me that she would be getting some presents for me, which made me somewhat anxious, since, I mean, what does she know...
I mentioned that I need a new external hard drive, and after coming home, we went on a grand shopping spree on the 23rd, and I also diverted us to an electronics store where I got myself a 5 TB external drive. 179 Euros, whew, these things have been cheaper...
So today, I got to open mah presents!!
First one contained two DVD packs... WHOA!! Both seasons of the awesome SF series Äkta Människor!! My mom had the first one several years back, I loved it, but her DVDs somehow disappeared. Recently, the second season came out, and now I have both!
Second package was a book... Oh, cool, something I had actually mentioned to her once, James Gleick's Time Travel - A History.
The third present seemed to be a really thick book, but it turned out to be two... OMG!!!!!!!! Nothing less than Cixin Liu's Three-Body Problem trilogy (also called Remembrance of Earth's Past) - well, the first two volumes, the third is still en route.
This trilogy is by China's leading SF author, and the hype train for it is huuuuuge.
The best part? I had NOT even mentioned it to my mom, she had independently read about it in the newspaper, and decided I would probably like it (and hoped I'd not have it yet...). That's like, the PERFECT kind of gift!!

Re: The Elder Cave
Mine was pretty good. I asked for clothes and got pretty much only that!
The reason for the insistence on clothes? My apartment doesn't have a yard for the dog so I have to take him out several times every day. Before this, I rarely ever went out in the winter so my winter wardrobe was severely lacking. I have four long sleeved shirts and that's about it. Now I have... six? But my cousin and my mom also got me gift cards so I can get more stuff! What's sort of funny yet at the same time worrying is that it was 67°(not the record high, much to my relief) Christmas Eve and in the mid fifties today, so there hasn't been much need for warm clothes yet. It bounces back and forth between cold and mild weather. I imagine January will be colder (or mid-January anyway)
I also got to hold my cousin's 1 month old for a while. Got the usual "so when are you having one?" teasing which is.. I have mixed feelings but nothing too bad? My mother absolutely loves holding him and my dad played with the middle child for a while. So. Yeah. Mixed feelings. Nothing to dampen the mood of the day, luckily.

At least Don got a bit of a break from all the poo slinging in the comic threads.

Re: The Elder Cave
Well, fuck me.
Not only did I have no idea what was going on with the site...
Nope, now you tell me of poo slinging in the comic threads. Or was that just a general experession (since i don't thnk you read the comic threads anymore)?
Because right now, I'm fuckall busy with my new position here and except for GD, where there's few posts anyway, I'm WEEKS behind...

Re: The Elder Cave
It was a general expression. I haven't looked at the comic threads in probably a year.

Re: The Elder Cave
I think in that case I would have said goodbye and not looked back.

*picks leisurely through the dregs of the pantry
