I hate New Year's Eve. What are we supposed to be celebrating anyway, the cold, the dark, or the prospect of three more months of winter weather (if we're lucky.) Instead of celebrating an arbitrary quirk of the calendar, I'd much rather celebrate something real. I am waiting for that.

I don't know if this will mean anything to anyone not in North America, but I saw something today I hadn't seen in years, maybe decades: a caboose on the end of a train. I thought that was both weird and kind of neat.
