Yeah, but we've already agreed on rules, Mr. Newbie. You can't just come in here and change everything /:)

MrBishop is hardly a newbie. :P

I'm more wondering about why he tells us about 3-5-3, then writes 3-4-4...

Granted...but I did sayt hat it was how I am used to doing them.

Debateable also, since Japanese characters/sylables have differing lengths and meanings based on use. One character, for instance, might mean blue or green.

I'll write another.
We're not basing this on the japanese characters, but it's always 5-7-5 on, or short syllables, if I understand the textbook translation correctly.

We're basing this on a simplification of the japanese rules.

Yeah, the rules of haiku take a book to relate fully. There's also limits on which rules apply to which subjects of the haiku. Writing a haiku about a natural phenomenon follows different rules from writing a haiku about a human activity, and both are different from haikus about a feeling or a philosophical concept (which have the most bizarre and least "haiku-like" of the rules).

As said earlier, nobody cares about that. This isn't intended for stylistic perfection - it's having fun with the form. So yeah the contest rule is both more and less restrictive, because this isn't a classroom.
Further affiant sayeth not.

I wish people would read the rules... they did state quite clearly we're going for the 5-7-5 simplified and tradition format for Haiku writing.... /:)

Otherwise.. great new enteries guys! :ymapplause: Middle line on LSD's is 8 though rather then 7 by my count... but could just be because I'm running on 8 hours sleep in 2 days. :p

I'll write another.
The term for a word with different meanings is "homonym". English has them too.
And actually, Aoi isn't just a character, it's the word:P, which has different characters for different meanings(same one for blue and green tho). However, they also have Midori for green, Aoi being used mainly for blue, with few specific exceptions.
And Japanese words don't have different mora based on use. Each word has the same amount of mora irrelevant of the use. It would be pretty hard for them otherwise:). Maybe you meant different readings based on the kanji used, but since haikus are based on moras, it would be pretty hard to do:P.

Also, I find it very funny that you guys aren't good at separating the syllables:P.
One day I'm gonna lose the war.

'cause my brain is frozen by our recent weather debacle? That's all I can come up with for the moment. :ymblushing:

I have added two Haiku's to the list. One tongue-in-cheek and the other topical.

Brain still borked. Please look at rule #1:

"Only one Haiku entry per person."
