Not entirely sure how much money Amber saved up from being a porn star. She might be able to afford her own PA and just didn't get around to it.

Her comments in panel 2 ("I'd like one but they don't come cheap") make it pretty clear to me that hiring one would be a stretch for her at best, and very possibly completely out of the question just now. Equally, "I just feel a little left out" sounds a lot like the setup for her and Dillon hiring Ruby to work for both of them jointly. Sure, it'd stick in Ruby's craw, but she needs a job and it'd add to the narrative fun. For that matter, it could finally bring Amber back into the story as more than an off-screen plot convenience.

And talking of Amber's narrative function - panel 4 here isn't the first time we've seen her giggling at Dillon or Ruby's goofy misadventures - usually Dillon's, I think. I'm not saying that she only sticks around him for the cheap laughs, exactly, but it does seem like she can't help finding him unintentionally entertaining. Either that or she represents the creators laughing at their own jokes, which I hope isn't the case.

(And is Ruby justified in worrying that Amber would laugh at her, given half an excuse?)

It would be amusing to see Ruby go through Amber's books and find out she is getting underpaid for royalties and merchandising rights... That is of course once her brain recovers from getting more than a glimpse of the business Amber was in. I can see Ruby saying something like, "Amber you're getting screwed on this and not in the same way from The Sisterhood In Each Other's Pants!"

as I said, if.................. Amber was a huge porn star............... I would expect at least to get close to same now because of it in conventional castings as in 25% less or better than that, I would expect

so I am guessing she used(or was supposed to) get between 60K to 250K per year depending on how heavy her work is.............. l am guessing Brasca might be right and she might have been getting much less than expected when she does not like to use emails and such, so she might not have any idea of actual salaries and she might have been getting at most 40K per year for a very heavy load of work thus hugely underpaid

I am guessing Nathan did some porn work with both Amber and Dill so it is possible Ruby might end up getting for Amber a few millions owed, and maybe 100K to 250K for Dillon if she is able to get Nathan and other producers with the "pants down"

Or possibly extort them into producing her yaoi dream.

Actually, there's nothing saying Dillion has to pay that much. Personal Assistants may make 30k a year, but Dillion's could make less.

Don't know Canada minimum wage laws or maybe they have a law saying all personal assistants must make so much an hour.

I think that the key point here is that he has to pay some kind of living wage - as Amber has just pointed out - and he really isn't rich.

maybe not hardcore, but feel he did softcore, but thanks to Amber getting the apartment for Dill and her, nathan has to do R rating at most with them

so the gay hero movie is R rated, lot of kissing and going about as far as brokeback mountain at most

Is it just me, or is Ruby starting to wear clothes that hug her figure a little tighter?

The rapid increase in the sophistication of Ruby's wardrobe was the first sign that she is capable of actual character development. It started right back when Dillon took her shopping, though, and especially when he poured her into those designer jeans. The comic never explained why she switched from the granny nightdress to that rather appealing loose T-shirt in bed, however.

I hadn't noticed the art showing more of her figure, but Giz's style is always subtly evolving, so I may have missed it. Ruby is certainly coming to terms with the fact that she's a sexual being.

Regarding the unexplained switch from granny nightdresses to loose T-shirts it is comfort on 2 levels. First, since she is living with her sister and a gay man she probably feels more comfortable about dressing in a way she would previously regard as immodest. Second, is physical comfort. I do not know if she lived at a dorm while in college or at home, but regardless she slept alone. Now that she is living with Amber and Dillon she sleeps in bed with someone and another warm body can make what I presume to be a flannel night dress impractical especially if the apartment's thermostat is kept high.

The second idea is plausible, but the first has one problem; Ruby tries very hard to be more modest and restrained and conventional around Amber than she does elsewhere. She doesn't want her sister knowing about stuff which she can live with Dillon knowing, like the Rudy adventure or the yaoi interest.

But - over-analysing this wildly - that actually fits with the nightwear switch. She wore the granny dress when she was sharing a bed with Amber; she switched to the T-shirt when she thought that she'd be sleeping alone, and stuck with it even when she was sharing with Dillon. Which makes it look like a very strong symbol, possibly deliberately planted by the writers. Ruby may be modest and virginal, but she's normally a fairly clear-headed, sensible young woman. It's only when she's desperately trying to differentiate herself from Amber that she turns all weird and prudish. She's terrified of showing Amber the smallest sign of being like her.
