Regarding chloroform -- okay, I was just thinking that this was a commonplace enough feature of popular storytelling from the 19th century through to the 1970s or so, or even later. TV Tropes would seem to support that, although the only examples of chloroform as such being used in comic books that it offers are the Tintin comics (where it's apparently "very popular").
The other dated stuff is certainly patchy, and yeah, I'll certainly agree that Sandra's failure to contact anyone she knew in Paris during that year in Montreal certainly did bad things to suspension of disbelief. But then again, someone could have made such contact using 1950s technology without very much trouble.

In the story's defense, sometimes when you get really angry at someone (e.g., breakup, firing, moving out) that anger spills over onto people you associate with them, even tangentially, and you can find yourself withdrawing from them as a result; even the ones you know would be supportive can be painful to interact with due to the association, so you end up just cutting everyone out. Given that in that final window in Paris, Sandra was furious with Zoe, jealous of Cammi (relationshipwise) and Marie (careerwise), and Pierre had broken up with her, it's not surprising for her to not have much inclination to reach out to anyone over there until she feels good about herself again.

Or just like when Gilligan gets hit in the head with a coconut and gets amnesia instead of potential brain damage. I still think there's a method behind the madness and Zoe may be acting nonchalant.Spidrift wrote: ↑Sat Nov 17, 2018 12:22 pmThe super-excessive sacking nonsense was mere comedy excess. As I keep saying, these comics have never quite shaken off the influence of 1950s American lightweight comics, where instant-sleep chloroform is a commonplace thing and cellphones and the Internet aren't, and mid-level underwear models have private planes, and physical assaults never cause long-term damage -- and nobody ever comments on any of this, because it's genre convention. So I very much doubt that there'll be any logical follow-through on that stuff now.
Perhaps. However, Sandra might point out Zoe's own failings in the course of this bath handling Marie and for that matter her. Sandra followed many of Zoe's directions, but it seems like the friction started when she wanted control over her private life. Zoe assumed that Sandra botched the audition instead of suspecting there could be someone pulling strings for Marie and lashed out at both. Perhaps it was all for show and she was planning something all along, but considering what ultimately happened with Marie I'm thinking her temper got the better of her.KittyHat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 17, 2018 4:00 pmAnd now course the comic appears set to completely gloss over the fact that Zoé herself screwed things up massively by running around in a "Hulk smash" rage all of the time, never stopping to listen, and never paying the slightest attention to what was playing out right in front of her. Let's just completely ignore that fact, and suddenly Zoé was right about everything all along because Reasons?
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe she's just yet to be called out. But I have my doubts.

I’m curious, does everyone have the next comic they’re going to obsessively nitpick to death all picked out for when these close up?

"There is only one thing worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about".
At least if people are obsessively nitpicking it shows that they care. If the forum only had people saying how fantastic the comic always was it would be boring and if nobody was saying anything at all it a very bad sign indeed.

Personally no, although things can get lively on the Questionable Content message board.lordoffiling wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 12:59 amI’m curious, does everyone have the next comic they’re going to obsessively nitpick to death all picked out for when these close up?

Personally, I’ll be getting back to running my section of the international global elite conspiracy. Actually, I’ve kind if neglected that these last few years; anything been happening that we ought to fix?

That bath tub is a lot bigger than it first seemed (not a nitpick, lordoffiling, simply an amused observation)!

Just so we’re clear, I include myself in ‘everyone’.
I’m not exactly sure where I’m going, but there was a guy over in the Alfie comments complaining about how the sex was getting in the way of the plot... I could see myself looking down my nose at that guy.

I've been asking myself that ever since PMS ended, followed by EC/MC being put on the shelf indefinitely.lordoffiling wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 12:59 amI’m curious, does everyone have the next comic they’re going to obsessively nitpick to death all picked out for when these close up?
SotR is all I've got left at this point and even that's more of a passing interest while I'm looking for something to fill the void left by the two *C-verse comics. I really miss the kinds of discussions we had in those threads. Thankfully, there's still plenty for me to look forward to in gaming, like 'Valkyria Chronicles 4' which I already have for my Nintendo Switch. And, next month, I'll be getting 'Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition' for it as well.

No, and I'm pretty bummed about it.lordoffiling wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 12:59 amI’m curious, does everyone have the next comic they’re going to obsessively nitpick to death all picked out for when these close up?
LICD has gone sharply downhill in quality; I'm not even sure why I still read it, but at least it updates daily, so that fills the time...I guess?
Questionable Content is fun and updates 5 days of a week so that's awesome, but sometimes it's just SO. FREAKING. BORING.
I miss Penny & Aggie. I miss Marry Me. I miss QUILTBAG and I wasn't even super into QUILTBAG! I miss Candi like nobody's freaking business. Pretty much all of my favorite webcomics have fallen by the wayside, and I have yet to find anything new(ish) that's quite as intriguing. Clearly I like "slice of life" comics. I will take any and all recommendations.

Just to add a few recommendations :
"Go Get A Roomie" is still going strong and show no sign of ending anytime soon. If you don't know it, it's a slice of life comic with a lot of different characters. Very sweet, and also very informative sometimes.
"Wilde life" is quiet intriguing and beautifully written / drawn. there is magic and mysteries, sometimes mortal dangers, and a werewolf who swears a lot ^^
You already know QC ... Ah, I know! "Strong Female Protagonist" is an interesting read. SuperHero stuff but with strong philosophical debates. Sometimes it's ... hard to follow, but I still recommend it. I think it's ending soon though ...
Oh ! Oh! This one is good : "http://maliki.com" It's a French webcomic translated in English, so maybe some of the jokes won't work, but it's awesome, very cute, and can go from sweet cat stories to epic cosmic battles. The artist is also very nice and does animation work.
Anyway, hope that helps

I still have Two Kinds and KILL SIX BILLION DEMONS! but that dossnt make up for losing all the others that have folded
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.
