Re: GD Announcements / Suggestions.
Apologies for the double-postage.
Wiki's queer theory page is nifty from what I can see of it. This is the way that I have always known the term queer. To me it has always been a word of empowerment, not hatred or disdain. I am proud to be queer, and so are most of my queer friends. I don't think it's possible to insult someone with a phrase when they have taken it back and fully owned it.

Queer theory is a field of gender studies that emerged in the early 1990s out of the fields of gay and lesbian studies and feminist studies. Heavily influenced by the work of Michel Foucault, queer theory builds both upon feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the essential self and upon gay/lesbian studies' close examination of the socially constructed nature of sexual acts and identities. Whereas gay/lesbian studies focused its inquiries into "natural" and "unnatural" behavior with respect to homosexual behavior, queer theory expands its focus to encompass any kind of sexual activity or identity that falls into normative and deviant categories.

Thatta mod! lol
You heard the pretty lady with the badge, guys ;)
So, I have a suggestion. Why don't we put all the fics in a separate (sticky and locked) thread so we don't have to go through all the Elder Cave to find them?

Ooh
that is a good idea. I've been trying to find some of the fics to show to a friend but I've just given up.

Whatever you decide on the contests is fine with me, DnE; I don’t participate or vote in them anyway.

It's more Bear's contests and his decision... if you were to think of this as an analogy, Bear is Patrick Swayze from Roadhouse. T2B and myself are more just the other bouncers who support him - and we do, completely. I like to dedicate my efforts to keeping the peace, helping everyone getting along, and doing our best not to offend anyone.
Although now I'm picturing Bear with a mullet, and I full expect to be thwapped with the Beary Hammer.

*Thwaps DnE with Bear-jollnir since he was expecting it*
We'll sort something out to better organise the future contests. Being ebil though I'm still not awarding double prizes to first and second places.
And as for the fan-fics, I'll get around to sorting out that thread once I've done my morning trawl of the forum.
Edit: *Ticks off creating locked and stickied thread for Fan-fic veiwing* Done.

Re: GD Announcements / Suggestions.
I have a suggestion for the general discussion area: inane forum games! (And for once, "inane forum games" is somehow a re-railment)
1. Who here has played Werewolf/Mafia/whatever you want to call it?
I first heard of/played it as Werewolf and can best explain it thus. One is elected game moderator, they have no part in the game except as overseer. Moderator picks a random sample of the group to be werewolves (typically 2 out of 7 from what I remember). Werewolves all know who they are - the moderator tells them.
Then the game progresses in a series of day/night cycles as announced by the moderator, trying to hunt the werewolves by day and the werewolves hunt by night. Daytime, all the assembled group (inc. werewolves) need to pick someone to 'lynch' (who will be out of the game thereafter). Thus it's all about bluffing and detracting interest away from the werewolves. (Moderator reveals if somoene is a werewolf or not during the 'lynching').
Then at night the werewolves confer in secret and pick a victim, who is bitten and out of the game. (Some variations have this as turning, but out of the game usually works better) They don't announce it, the moderator does.
Rinse, repeat until either all the werewolves are gone or there are equal numbers of werewolves and not since that's a draw.
All sorts of variations on the rules for this though.
2. Mornington Crescent
Basically it's a trip around the London Underground, to reach Mornington Crescent, as originally played on the radio show "I'm Sorry, I haven't A Clue". The Wikipedia page, as usual, explains it better than I can.

Mafia is the version I know of, and it was great fun. But how would be do it here? You'd need everyone to participate, and you can't judge things like facial expressions and such to see if people are lying. (Apparently I'm a really really good liar. Also, the version I played had an angel who could protect one person each evening, and a detective who could find out if someone was a werewolf each evening.

Doesn't have to be everyone, really, as it's not for everyone. And generally if it's in groups of more than 10 it tends to get unmanageable. But yeah, there are all kinds of variations.Asaryu wrote:Mafia is the version I know of, and it was great fun. But how would be do it here? That's pretty much a game we do here when we drink But in person, of course.
It would be fun to try, but we would need to organize meetings carefully because of the different time zones.
Count me in, as long as you don't arrange meetings while I'm in class

I'm in. Sounds kind of like "stuck in high school with a killer" roleplays, except for with those it becomes obvious quickly who's the killer.
